Buttock remodelling, or buttock augmentation, is done to improve the contour, size, and/or shape of the butt. This is achieved with the use of implants, fat grafting, or sometimes a combination of both.
Butt implants help to enhance the shape of the buttocks by surgically inserting artificial devices or fat grafting to create volume. Implants are most suitable for people with little fat who will not be able to opt for fat grafting.
Silicone has been traditionally used as the material for butt implants. These silicone implants are surgically placed into the butt via an incision in between the button cheeks. For maximum results, this procedure is combined with fat grafting and can take up to four weeks to recover.
Butt augmentation with fat grafting, involves taking fat from another area of your body – usually the abdomen, flanks, or thighs – and injecting it into the buttock. As fat grafting on its own is unable to add volume, it is ideal for this method to be combined with silicone implants to achieve the most natural look possible.
As fat grafting involves removing fat from another body area to be implanted into the butt, this procedure is most suitable for people with enough body fat in another area, preferably at least 2 to 3 times the amount of unwanted fat to the amount of injected fat for ideal results.
A butt lift is a surgical procedure to improve the appearance of the buttock without adding volume. During a butt lift, excess fat and skin are removed from the buttock and the rest of the skin is repositioned to create a more toned look. This procedure is sometimes combined with an augmentation procedure to achieve the desired shape or size with implants or fat grafts. A butt lift, however, will not change the quality of your skin.
In another procedure, a filler called Sculptra is injected into the buttocks. Each injection adds a small volume and is carried out over weeks to months, to form additional collagen which may further increase the volume of your butt. As multiple sessions are required, this procedure can be considerably more costly than other options.
Similar to fat grafting, injections alone are unable to add volume and are normally combined with another procedure for best results.
In addition to fat grafting and implants, liposuction is sometimes used in butt procedures to remove excess fat in certain areas of the butt to achieve maximum quality. A procedure combining liposuction and butt implants may be carried out on patients with excess fat in their butt as a result of weight loss or aging.
Cosmetic butt surgeries can be carried out as a simple day surgery or may require several sessions to achieve the results you want. While the recovery time varies – you could bounce back as soon as within the day or in a few weeks – these procedures, if carried out by qualified professionals, will ensure that each session is as painless and comfortable as possible.
